The Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost) is celebrating its 111th anniversary on November 9 with a simple long day of program and activities simultaneously in all 2,100 post offices nationwide.
With the theme “PHILPOST: Matatag na Kaagapay sa Lahat ng Panahon,” the celebration will kick off with a simultaneous flag raising ceremony with Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) Chairman Efraim Genuino as guest speaker.
PhilPost will also award its outstanding postal employees and will be followed by a blood letting activity and medical/dental mission.
Postmaster General Hector R.R. Villanueva, PAGCOR chairman Genuino and PhilPost chairman Atty. Franco Loyola of the PPC board of directors will lead officials in the launching of different projects, such as the POS deployment of GSIS and money remittance transaction, Acceptance by PostalBank of the Bastion Remittance System and turnover of PAGCOR check to PhilPost towards upgrading its information technology infrastructure.
PhilPost will also unveil the Postal Museum perspective/scale model at the left wing of the historic post office building. Once completed, it will serve as a repository of postage stamps, old equipment and artifacts and valuable information on the history of the postal service.
A Philatelic Exhibit depicting the 2009 stamp issuances will be on display at the lobby of the post office main building.
It can be recalled that on November 10, 1898, General Emilio Aguinaldo created an all-Filipino postal service comprising the five provinces in Luzon under his control. From then on, it has been declared by PhilPost as their anniversary day.
The month of November is also being celebrated as stamp collecting month by virtue of Executive Order No. 498.
